Projects

Dolcotec’s mission is supported by two main projects:

1. On the one hand, Dolcotec’s long-term goal is to train domesticated dolphins to learn an artificial language, mediated through special computer software which can form an intermediary bridge between the dolphins’ own natural vocalizations and English words (see GAPR);
2. And on the other hand, the rigorous and detailed study of dolphin communication as it occurs naturally in the wild, in an attempt to decode the meaningful patterns and structures behind it (see 4-channel UDDAS).

It is Dolcotec’s philosophy that these two research pillars will complement and support each other, and that such an integrated approach is essential to ever make communication between dolphins and humans a reality.
